The University of California, Berkeley, participates in many cooperative agreements with educational and research institutions throughout the world. These bilateral and multilateral agreements facilitate the exchange of faculty members, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students participating in collaborative research and academic programs of mutual interest between and among partner institutions. They are diverse in nature, reflect a wide range of multidimensional interests, foster international scholarship, and comply with UC system-wide legal requirements.
Formal cooperative agreements are approved and signed by the Chancellor, and they conform to a contractual format developed by the Office of General Counsel. Agreements involving any direct financial obligation or commitment by the University require additional approval by The Regents.
Standard MOUs are valid for five years with the possibility of renewal. All UC Berkeley Memoradum of Understanding and Agreements are written in English. Partner universities may choose to translate the agreement into their home language.
